Jammie Thomas Rasset
A brief story about what has happened:
On 21st February 2005, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) appointed its agent MediaSentry to find out who is sharing 1,702 songs on Kazaa and it has been detected that a single Mother, Jammie Thomas Rasset, with the Kazaa username “tereastarr”at IP address 24.179.199.117 has shared 1,702 songs belong to RIAA on Kazaa.
The first trial concluded that Miss Thomas was guilty for sharing 24 songs and demanded her to pay US Dollar 222,000 with $9,250 per song. However Miss Thomas appealed.
On Thursday, 18th June 2009, the second verdict concluded that Miss Thomas is guilty for sharing 24 songs and she needs to pay $1.92 Millions, which makes the cost of every song to $80,000. That is a very insane verdict and how do they expect a single mother to pay so much to a company?
