Wizards Of Waverly Place

Wizards Of Waverly Place

“Wizards of Waverly Place”, Disney Channel new show about sibling who are wizards, will be adapted to a TV movie which will debut tonight. According to Wikipedia the show´s premise is:

The Russ children are not allowed to use magic without supervision, and only one of the three will keep their magic abilities once they are adults, and this will be determined by a magic competition. Their father Jerry once did this competition and won, but gave his powers to his brother in order to marry their mortal mother Theresa, because a wizard is not allowed to marry a mortal. Alex often gets into trouble for using magic unsupervised. Justin always makes sure Alex does not get into any more trouble than she’s already in. Along the way, all of the kids learn moral lessons relating to friends, family, and school.

The movie will tell the story of the The Russo siblings when they go on a Caribbean vacation with their parents. What happens during this time?. Watch the movie to see what will happen…

Stalagmite

Stalagmite

A 1,800-year-old stalagmite from a Chinese cave has revealed that, in the past, warmer years were associated with stronger East Asian monsoons (or more commonly knows as rainstorm) so this means that even now when the weather is hotter than usual we get more storm and hurricane (remember hurricane  Bill and Danny?) but that was true until just 50 years ago, when the man-made greenhouse gas emissions and pollution destroyed the normal weather.

Stalagmites hold a record of the world´s rainstorm activities (depending on where they are found of course) and therefore can give us information on the changes the planet´s weather have suffered depending on the age of the stone.

So with this now we can measure the Global Warming and hopefully be able to stop it…

Shuttle Launch

Shuttle Launch

The NASA delayed the Space Shuttle Discovery launch from Friday´s morning to Wednesday´s night, to give engineers more time to repair and make sure an 8-inch hydrogen valve in the orbiter’s engine compartment will operate normally during fueling.

The problem came up during fueling for a day-late launching Wednesday morning. As the Discovery’s external tank was filled with liquid oxygen and hydrogen rocket fuel, the inboard hydrogen fill-and-drain valve was commanded to close. Data from a position sensor never indicated the valve was, in fact, closed and NASA managers called off the countdown. (i bet you can´t even imagine being in outer space with a broken 8-inch hydrogen valve?…)

So now the official launch time is Wednesday´s night at 11:59 p.m, lets hope this time they get everything fixed…

Brian Stokes Mitchell

Brian Stokes Mitchell

It is confirmed, Brian Stokes Mitchell, a Tony Award winner, will sing ¨The Impossible Dream¨  from Man of La Mancha, the show based on the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes at  Sen. Edward Kenned´s ¨private¨ memorial tonight , which will be held at the JFK Library and Museum in Boston.

Also speaking are: Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Senator John F. Kerry, Senator John McCain, Senator Orrin Hatch, Governor Deval L. Patrick, Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II and Caroline Kennedy.

The song choice is moving because its a reminder of  one of Senator Kennedy’s most notable speeches: his address to the Democratic National Convention in 1980, in which he conceded his campaign for nomination as the Democratic Presidential candidate against incumbent Jimmy Carter.

La Canada Fire

La Canada Fire

A fire broke out last Wednesday at the Los Angeles National Forest and it’s now threatening the Los Angeles area, the 1,400 firefighters, who came throughout the state, are doing their best to contain it, but it is just too large. An emergency evacuation had to be made on the Williams Camp, a resort on the banks of the San Gabriele Rivers because of the fire.

A forest service spokesman, Jim Wilkins, said that the “fire was doing pretty much what it wanted to” and that it was burning “freely”.

The authorities say the cause of the fires remains still under investigation.

Hurricane Danny Projected Path

The Hurricane Danny´s projected path is now available to the public and it looks like it will be bad news for the East Coast, with major danger in the New Jersey and New York areas (looks like Dominican Republic is off the hook now…).

Right now, the hurricane´s current speed is around 18 miles per hour and it’s moving west-northwest with winds of 45 miles per hour, but it’s expected to slowly strengthen in the next few days so we will keep you updated.

Madonna

Madonna

Madonna, the famous singer (come on… who doesn’t know Madonna here?), was booed (yeah, you read right, booed) by a crowd of 60,000 people at one of her concerts in Bucharest for defending the Roma or, more commonly known, gypsies.

Roma, or Gypsies, are a nomadic ethnic group believed to have their roots in the Indian subcontinent. They live mostly in southern and eastern Europe, but hundreds of thousands have migrated west over the past few decades in search of jobs and better living conditions.

“It has been brought to my attention … that there is a lot of discrimination against Romanies and Gypsies in general in Eastern Europe,” Madonna said to the media after the event. “It made me feel very sad.”

Also, here is a video from Youtube about the concert, hope you enjoy it.

Jaycee Dugard

Jaycee Dugard

A girl, Jaycee Lee Dugard,  who was kidnapped 18 years ago, resurfaced today as a 29-year-old woman  (she  was 11 when she was kidnapped) at a police station  and was reunited with her family after she gave information of her 2 captors, who kidnapped her back at 1991, just when she was going to take the bus to go to school.

The police arrested the two kidnappers, Phillip Garrido and his wife, Nancy,  charged them for Ms. Dugard’s abduction and discovered a compound where they believe Jaycee was kept for nearly two decades.

Well, i wish good luck to Jaycee and her reunited family, since they never lost their hope on finding their daughter, and hope she can live happily now.
